The village hall at Ripple was packed to the rafters for the Summer League Final, and the teams certainly didn’t disappoint.
It all came down to the very last bowl of the very last game of the very last match. Defford lost to the Yorkley Falcons, but with two earlier wins under their belt, they were still in the running. All eyes then turned to the other Yorkley side, the Kestrels, locked in a nail-biting finish against Kingsway Swans.
The hall buzzed with speculation: “If they win by two and we’ve got four in hand, could it be a tie?” Thankfully, Mike Sparrow had it all carefully written down—but wisely kept the suspense going until the final shot.
In the end, the Kestrels secured the final shot on the last end, and the standings were:
- Defford Diamonds – 2 wins, +4 shots
- Yorkley Falcons – 2 wins, +2 shots
- Kingsway Swans – 2 wins, +1 shot
- Yorkley Kestrels – 2 bonus points
A big thank-you to Ripple for a wonderful tea—the cakes were outstanding (and perhaps a little ironic, given that two of your members are named Slim!).
All in all, it was a thrilling finale and a fitting close to the Summer season.
