Another tense encounter between Gloucestershire and Avon Short Mat Bowling Associations unfolded at the Bristol Indoor Bowling Centre, with both counties competing to retain/regain the Brunel Cup — the trophy contested annually between the two.
Gloucestershire carried a strong 30–10 lead into the second leg, but Avon mounted a fierce comeback, steadily chipping away at the advantage. Despite the pressure, Gloucestershire held their nerve. With grit, determination, and some excellent bowling, they managed to stay just ahead on the day. Ultimately, Gloucestershire won back the cup with a convincing overall score of 51–29.

A particularly fitting moment: Judith Sawyer of Avon was there to present the cup to the Gloucestershire side — a meaningful appearance at the climax of a hard-fought contest.
