Two great evenings of bowls between Defford and Yorkley this week marked the home and away fixtures for the Knockout tournament final.
Although the final scoreline stood at 16:2, it doesn’t truly reflect the effort, skill, and determination both teams brought to the competition. In the end, there had to be a winner – and this time, Defford came out on top.
There were plenty of memorable moments, but a personal highlight was watching Mike Dooley deliver some fantastic draws to secure a crucial end win, despite Yorkley holding several contending woods. Excellent bowling, Mike – you even denied us a game win with that performance!
The Australian pairs matches were equally tense, both going down to the very last bowl of the final end. It was only fitting that we each took a win on our opponent’s mat.
Credit goes to Mike Wall for designing such a competitive and enjoyable tournament. And of course, congratulations to Defford – well played!
