Last night’s cup final at Defford saw the Yorkely Kestrels in action, holding a 7-2 lead from the first leg and needing just 3 points to secure victory. The evening unfolded with anticipation as players aimed to seal the win.
Starting off positively Mike W’s group secured a win in their triples match. However, despite their efforts, Julian and team faced defeat in theirs, bringing the halftime score, and tea, as 9-4 in favour of the Yorkley.
As the match progressed, the focus turned to the 4s and pairs matches. Although the 4s began with promise, but with some brilliant skipping by Mike Sparrow, they couldn’t maintain their lead, resulting in a score of 9-6.
The pairs match proved to be a closely fought affair against Saul Featherstone, the reigning World pairs champion and fellow Jo. Despite a valiant effort, the Yorkley narrowly missed out on victory, with the final score resting at 9-8 in favour of Defford, who claimed the bonus point for shot difference, resulting in a possible draw at 9-9.
As the result was now down to the shot difference Defford Diamonds secured the victory with 75-61.
Well done Defford Diamonds for winning the double, both League and Cup.
