Another great opportunity to see Gloucestershire teams out on tour, with some viewing the day as the perfect warm-up for a week at Dawlish Warren.
Teams from Defford, Ripple and Sharpness were joined by local friends from Hereford and Basingstoke to enjoy a 3-wood triples competition, held in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Sixteen teams competed across four groups in an event superbly organised by Phil (and Lewis) and Worcestershire Bowls.
Bowls even took a step into the 21st century, with Mat 1 live-streamed throughout the day — watch this space!
The finals delivered plenty of drama. The play-off for third place saw an all-Hereford affair, with Ross overcoming Woolhope, while the final featured newcomers Sharpness against the established Basingstoke side. No major upset in the end, but a thoroughly entertaining contest to close the day.
A terrific day of bowls all round, capped off with a big thank you to John and Jo for wearing the Deer Park Archers colours and keeping the “three Jays” alive throughout the event.
