The annual Avon Open 3 Bowl Pairs Competition took place yesterday at the Bristol Indoor Bowl Center. Gloucestershire was represented by 3 teams; Jo and Saul Featherstone (Defford), Mike Sparrow and Rob Pearson (Defford & Ripple respectively), Carole Preece and Monica Carter (Ripple).
It was contested by 28 teams from England and Wales, making 7 groups of 4. Top of each group plus the best runner up went into the Cup with the next 8 making up the Plate. Whilst two of our teams had mixed results in their groups, Jo & Saul won all group games to topped their group. They continued their winning streak through the Cup knockouts, against Wellsway (Avon) in the quarter finals and Resolven Rhinos (Swansea) in the semi finals.
In a competitive final with Llansamlet (Swansea), Jo and Saul won with one end to spare, to retain the title that they won in this competition last year.
